Fix it: Cloudflare Domain Transfer Error Message (2024)
You are in the middle of transferring your domain Cloudlfare, and you see this error.
Registry status: Client transfer prohibited. Please unlock and allow a few hours to update.
Check that you have unlocked your domain with your current provider
Wait! Could take an hour or a day.
That’s it. You might have to check the documentation of your existing provider for the specific setting that allows a domain to be transferred to another registrar.
Here is an example from GoDaddy.
GoDaddy example
Before you can select to transfer a domain to Cloudflare, you will need to tell GoDaddy that you want to transfer to another registrar.
On your GoDaddy page, click on Overview tab for your domain, scroll to the bottom. Under Transfer, find and click on Transfer to Another Registrar.
This will start the Domain Transfer Out process. Read through the Domain transfer checklist. Click Continue with transfer to unlock the domain for transfer.
Your domain is now unlocked from GoDaddy and ready to transfer.
Wait for the domain unlock to be recognised. It took me around an hour.
Go back to the Cloudflare tab Transfer Domains, and you should see your domain in the page.
You can now continue with the transfer.
